Hotel History
In 1997 the Loews Corporation purchased the Philadelphia
Savings Fund Society (PSFS) building and reopened it in
2000 as the Philadelphia Loews Hotel. The Signature PSFS
sign, considered an integral part of the historic
architectural design remains atop of the building today
Designed by architect William Lescaze and George Howe, the
building, the first international modernist skyscraper, was
erected in 1932 and is a national historic landmark.
The PSFS was founded in 1816 in Philadelphia and was the
first savings bank in the United States.
The hotel today features Art Deco heritage in the sleek
lobby, where graphic patterns and bright colors mix with
marble, steel and tile. The style extends to each of the
Loews Philadelphia guest rooms which feature round mirrors,
elegantly arched reading lights and dark furnishings.
The building rises 492 feet tall and is 32 stories and a
view of the Delaware River is had from many rooms.
