KNUST Department of Industrial Art

The Metal Product Design Section of the Department of Industrial Art, Kwame Nkrumah
University of Science and Technology was created in 1964 with full Departmental status. It
was later grouped in 1968 with Textiles and Ceramics to be named the Department of
Industrial Art. The core mandate of the section under the department is to train graduates to
feed the Product Design, Metalsmithing and Jewellery Industry both in Ghana and beyond.
The programme admits an average of 45 students each year and aims at equipping students
with the requisite skills and the technical know-how in the areas of Metal Product Design,
Jewellery and Metalsmithing to enable them function in the industry. The programme serves
as the fundamental tool to make graduates eligible to pursue further studies in these three
areas of specialty and other related disciplines.
