Transforming the Prototype, developed and hosted by Baltimore Jewelry Center, Montgomery College, and Towson University, features students, alumni, emerging and established artists. Participants will reimagine a traditional ring by radically altering a provided vintage wax pattern. Participants will choose a vintage ring design that they want to work with from a group of rings selected for the project. They will then receive a wax version of this ring which they will radically transform through additive or subtractive processes. The objective is to reimagine the prototype wax pattern into a bespoke object(s) or jewelry. Participants can integrate new components using wax and have the ring cast; have the ring cast as is and alter it with soldering, sawing, adding stones, etc. or a combination of these processes.
