Jewellers and Metalsmiths Conference
Saturday October 5, 2024

Taking place just outside of Boorloo/Perth, in Walyalup/Fremantle, this famed biennial event returns to the Western Australian coast for the first time since 2010.

Our speaker line-up includes international guests; Everett Hoffman, a recent AJF Young jewellers award finalist, Thai jeweller Rudee Tancharoen speaking on traditional casting techniques, and Julia Heineccius, educator and maker from Seattle.

The conference highlights First Nations artists, curators, and researchers from across Australia, with local Indigenous curator Michelle Broun leading a panel discussion with Indigenous makers. There’s also Dr Aly De Groot and Dr Louise Hamby, discussing the introduction of contemporary methods to the traditional practices of the Indigenous makers of eastern Arnhem land, Gapuwiyak.

Special guest Kaori Juzu (Japan/Denmark), a 2023 Loewe Foundation Craft prize finalist, will be teaching workshops pre-and-post Conference, as will Everett Hoffman and Julia Heineccius. Kaori will also feature In Conversation with Melissa Cameron on the 6th.

Our exhibition crawl on Sunday the 6th includes gallery openings, tours, and artist talks. It will finish with a Perth tradition, a sundowner in Walyalup, to debrief as the sun dips into the Indian Ocean. This is one not to be missed!

To be a part of the exhibitions go to the reflect | refract and Graduate Metal exhibition pages on the website to register.
