Artist Statement: The materials chosen for this brooch hold symbolic significance. Steel merges with 22kt Placer gold, extracted from rivers along the West Coast. Additionally, Shibuichi, a traditional Japanese alloy serves as a medium, symbolizing our connection to the Pacific Rim. The Lapis Lazuli stone symbolizes the sky.
Blue Carbon refers to the capacity of ocean kelp to sequester carbon. The underwater forests have the ability to capture carbon at an accelerated rate compared to terrestrial plants.
