Gaza Gaza Don’t You Cry

Artist Statement: It has been 75 years since the beginning of Israel’s unjust occupation of Palestinian land, Palestinians were forcefully removed from their homes and faced constant persecution at the hands of the west. Despite this they continue to defend what they have left, turning their struggles into symbols for resistance. A slice of watermelon bearing the four symbolic colors of the land held high in place of their flags which were taken, a mundane object transformed into a beacon of hope and strength.
