Jade is important in Chinese culture, and many people in China (including my dad) wear jade everyday without taking it off for years. The way that the jade was set with steel in this piece makes me think about protecting and controlling.
This piece is about my struggle for wanting to go home, but not being able to go back since Covid started. The lock from inside indicates the lockdown at home as well as the unwelcome from the home country.
Materials: Jade, steel, brass, copper, silver, powder coat, spray paint
