Artist bio: I came to metalsmithing after an extensive business career. I studied design in college, but didn’t know metalsmithing even existed at that time! Later, I discovered Chicago’s Lillstreet Art Center and joined a community of makers. I have been designing and handcrafting jewelry for several years. I currently live in Chicago with my husband, Bob, and adorable puppy, Nico.
Metalsmithing, for me, is a metaphor for personal growth and achievement: you build, change, enhance, erase, fix, regroup, advance, repair, toss, return, and keep progressing. I find it to be immensely satisfying to develop and refine technical and design skills crafting jewelry others can enjoy. Playing with shapes, observation, aesthetic preference, trial and error, and evolving craftsmanship – that’s how I create jewelry. Using my hands to explore what a piece will become is what I love: design, construction and all the decisions required to create a little, beautiful 3D piece.
