Hannah Craig

Lucanidae

This piece reflects on the topic of ‘environment’ both in the sense of our interconnected physical ecologies, as well as our own unique psycho-spiritual landscapes. By rendering insects in this precious context, ideas of value and beauty are questioned. How does society’s conflation of beauty and value impact our environmental efforts; our understanding of our selves? I offer that in both contexts, the most necessary work often requires attention to that which is least glamorous and beautiful.
