SNAG Conference

Snapshots

Five presenters will each give a 20-minute quick-paced and inspirational talk about their work and career.

Adam Atkinson | Codes of Conduct
Heteronormative narratives of the American West became a catalyst for strict gender binaries still experienced today. Atkinson’s research attempts to subvert the masculine western archetype through material histories, queer adornment, and the homoerotic gaze. Childhood memories of hunting dens and wilderness campgrounds inform their work and link personal experience to the politics of representation.

Tanya Owens Crane | Learn Anywhere; the value of craft and community
The process of learning is a personal and multiordinal event shaped by connections, environments and an acceptance of all tensions. Accompany me on a meandering path through the worlds of jewelry education where communities and mentors can and will be found; sometimes in the most unexpected places!

Sophie Glenn | Rust Never Sleeps
A presentation of my current body of work, entitled ‘Rust Never Sleeps’, and how I came to make this work.

Ana María Jiménez | Return to the Process (Volver al proceso)
Introducing the research “Volver al proceso” conducted by Ana María Jiménez since 2018. During this time, she has traced the Amerindian goldsmith techniques of the Northern Andes (Colombia) and replicated them in her workshop to comprehend them through practical application. Combining artisanal practices and historical studies, this research aims to approach the goldsmith knowledge of the past, engage it in dialogue with the present, and explore new sustainable ways of crafting jewelry.

Georgina Treviño | A Journey Between Fashion and Contemporary Jewelry World
My presentation will include my personal journey between the fashion world, jewelry and Art.
