Describe how the nominee fulfills the criteria for the IMPACT Award. Maximum 5000 characters.

Melissa is a great candidate for this award for many reasons.
With regards to her contribution to jewellery, one can easily point to her experiments and triumphs with her trademarked Gold Flow process of which she is the originator. Her original process has inspired many and her generosity with teaching her techniques is well known. In addition, her focus on creating texture by hand, as opposed to using techniques like reticulation, demonstrates her absolute love for her materials and process. The results are unlike anything that even her most dedicated students are able to achieve. Her work is unique from all perspectives. The increase in other artists using these techniques is solely due to her impactful presence in the independent jewellery world in North America.

She has dedicated her practice to using recycled metals and lab grown stones as often as possible. She has become a good advocate for the importance of these practices and hopes to raise interest in them in the buying public and with other artists.
