Adult’s Last Collar

Artist Statement: My collection represents the memories I hold dear of wooden trinket heart shelves, and the items placed upon them. These wooden shelves tend to be crafted with love and care, and frequently signed with a “to”, “from”, and a date. I’ve noticed that once-loved shelves are now found in flea markets, thrift stores, garage sales, and by the side of the road, ready to be disposed of. This makes me sad as something I hold dear is now considered junk, despite the care that went into each shelf. My representation of these wooden shelves is through jewelry, how these once permanent items in a home still hold value. This collection of jewelry focuses on outdated and underappreciated shelves by reestablishing value through metal, a permanent material. Rather than getting overlooked in a space, the icons can become the heart of the home. To be reseen in a new light and fit into the present by creating new memories with once-loved wooden shelves.
