Anna Liu

Anna Liu is a jewelry designer, who got her MA from Savannah College of Art and Design. Anna received her BFA from Temple University, Tyler School of Art.

As a jewelry designer, she has always been interested in the process of making jewelry and exploring different elements. It was exciting and pleasing for her to see the different textures of materials and the visual impact they could bring to her viewers’ eyes. When it comes to inspiration for making her design on jewelry, most of it comes from daily life. Anna wants to use common-sense objects to bring connections to her audience. Not only that, Anna is drawn to the materials used in her work. She believes that different materials will give the piece a unique meaning.

Anna wants her design to be not just the appearance from the outside. But most important to pull viewers in and explore more. By doing that, she hopes her viewers to think deeper and translate any meaning the viewer wants.

Conceptual Statement: I was born in a small city in China. When I was younger I thought there was nothing special about this small town located on the outskirts of the Sichuan basin, a city of stairs and slopes. Waking up to sceneries of mountains that go for many miles left a clear image in my mind which often sparks nostalgia for times of happiness with my family, mountains had become an emotional switch for me. This work titled Mountain is the spines of Earth inspired by mountains in my hometown. I hope to use my body part to claim the importance of the mountain. The mountain symbolizes Home that keeps me standing straight and being able to walk. Home means to me it’s where my family is, they are always there to support me. The spine supports me to go as far as I want, but the mountains remind me that I have somewhere to belong.
