Conceptual Statement: Our artwork encapsulates a cyclical journey of isolation, renewal, and the rekindling of human connection mirrored in the diverse settings of our images. Some pieces are suspended against stark white backdrops, reminiscent of a sterile spaceship, invoking a sense of longing and solitude. Others are set in a red arid desert scene, echoing the Mars rover's search for life, symbolizing a quest for renewal. Finally, the lush green landscapes signify a reawakening of connection and hope. During the Hero collection's creation, simplicity was our guide. Each photograph and silver artwork, crafted in solitude, symbolized a meditative union of concept, scene, and craft. Pandemic restrictions honed our focus on the basics, influencing our work and interactions, all constrained by our limited social bubble. We adapted, shooting self-portraits and including only two models–friends within our bubble. This solitary approach mirrored the isolation in metalsmithing, particularly Ange's 'fold-formin

Conceptual Statement: Derived from the Hero collection photoshoot, this image titled 'Cosmos' captures a unique moment in time during Covid-19 in Singapore. We selected this hot, arid patch of land as a backdrop. Its barren, desertedness and red dirt mirrored the solitude of the Mars Rover on its mission to find life— a solitude we, too were experiencing due to pandemic restrictions. Under the intense morning sun, with sweat glistening and silver glinting, two of us–model and photographer–embarked on this creative exploration with our mission in mind.

Lunar

Date of Creation: 15/05/2020

List of Materials: recycled eco-friendly silver

Dimensions: Adjustable Barrel Ring medium 2cm height, Large silver bangle 7.5 x 16 cm, Lunar 1 bangle 5 x 15cm

Photographer's Name: Armanda Colson

Model's Name: Armanda Colson

Conceptual Statement: 'Lunar,' an image from the Hero collection photo series, captures the feelings of isolation and sterility experienced at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. Armanda, the photographer adapted, shooting all these initial images solo serving as her own model. As we found ourselves sequestered indoors, the constant Singapore sunshine cast predictable shadows through the windows, creating a sundial-like effect that was both serene and disorienting at times. The weightless jewelry and the shadows cast on the stark white walls evoked the feeling of a sterile space station. The 'Lunar 1' bangle, shaped like a crescent moon, seems to float just out of reach—symbolizing our yearning for human connection. Alternatively, it could be seen as levitating, propelled by an internal creative force ignited by the isolation we experienced. As we navigated the times, confined to our pods and venturing out only for essentials, 'Lunar' mirrors this reality in a profound way.
