Before it Breaks II

Artist Statement: Evidence of control and impulse emerges through repetition. Repeat a mark, repeat a form, repeat an idea in ten different ways, repeat, repeat, repeat. When does repetition, an attempt to assert control, become automatic, and is in turn, no longer controllable? Systems of order that are natural and systems of order which are imposed converge. The grid is a system, it is control, it is a frame, it is a protector, it is a barrier. To rupture the system is to venture towards the uncertain and the dark— or perhaps it is to have hope for what else is possible. Grids are collaged into new forms, they decay, and they are pushed to their breaking point. The work is an invitation into the realm of the haptic. It welcomes chance and awe. It circles around balance, but seldom arrives.
