Ben Cooke-Akaiwa

Ben is a jeweler and metals artist in Bloomington, IN. He graduated from Indiana University in May of 2019 with a BFA in Metalsmithing and Jewelry Design. He has supplemented his education through workshops at Arrowmont Craft School and an apprenticeship in Japan. He has participated in residencies at the Baltimore Jewelry Center and Arrowmont. Ben has exhibited his work internationally, in the United States, the Netherlands, Germany and Canada. He is currently pursuing an MFA in Metalsmithing and Jewelry Design from Indiana University.


A Rose for Dinah

Conceptual Statement: Dinah loved her flowers, particularly her roses. She lovingly tended to two rose bushes for many years and would frequently report on their well-being. I always associated her with beautiful things and chose to immortalize her favorite flower on this delicate jar. I planted it in my garden as she had done with her roses. Overnight my favorite flowers sprouted, and there among the blooms was the jar, a celosia blossoming from within.
