Artist Statement: Being a product of the hybridization of cultures I am fascinated by the resulting novelty that occurs when two or more unlike things are integrated. I use both wood and metal to investigate the subject of connection and identity.
For these pieces I inlay strips and pieces of metal into the wooden pendants, electroplate copper onto the surface of the 3d printed wood collar and knit metal wire around the wood pieces trying to find a connection/cohesion between the two materials. In doing so, I seek to resolve the internal conflicts relating to my Nigerian culture and Colonialists/Western culture.
Materials: 3d printed Wood PLA, copper wire, maple wood, wood dye
Dimensions: 18 x 8 inches approx.
