Militsa Milenkova

Creator of pieces:
Militsa Milenkova is an artist and maker based in Glasgow. She creates jewellery and objects as a means of communicating her thoughts and feelings and draws inspiration mainly from her surroundings and personal experiences. In her practice she explores various concepts that intrigue her, while challenging her creativity by experimenting with different materials.

Photographer:
My name is Jane Karweick, and I have a passion for storytelling and creative expression. This manifests in my photographic practice. I love to collaborate with others to express my stories as well as highlighting their own personalities. Along with that, I explore the depths of my soul through my self-portrait work. Hopefully creating a space where people can relate and explore their own internal landscape.

Conceptual Statement: As I looked through the many intriguing pieces laid out before me, a bottle shaped object caught my eye. I wasn’t alone, as my fellow photographer reached for it almost immediately, and both of us agreed that it needed to be photographed. Many questions crossed my mind, what could something this shape and size be used for? Presumably to carry something, but what? A magic potion perhaps? As if to punctuate these thoughts, Milly pulled out a box, containing an ear piece that looked quite mystical and elven. I imagine an elven woman exploring a strangely lit cave. In that cave she finds a mysterious bottle, and much like Alice, she decides it’s something to drink. The photos never answer what is in the bottle. I like to imagine some kind of potion, but maybe it’s just water. This mystical mystery is what drew me to the combination of these pieces in the first place, and I aimed to convey the curious and dramatic feeling that Milly’s whimsical pieces gave me in the photographs we made
