I have always been interested in the life and paintings of Frida Kahlo especially Broken Column, an oil on masonite painted in 1944 shortly after she had spinal surgery to correct on-going problems which had resulted from a serious traffic accident when Kahlo was 18 years old.

When I was working on this piece which was made from tourmaline crystals and 14K gold I realized that the work had a relationship to the painting so I titled the piece as an homage to one of my favorite artists.

As is a trained illustrator and graphic designer I have a keen eye for color and proportion, bringing together a painter’s outrageous sense of color and designer’s devotion to balance to each piece I design and make. Every piece of jewelry is entirely handcrafted in gold, sterling silver, and individually selected unique gemstones.
