David J Lilly is inspired by the mid-century-modern & Brutalist aesthetics & a self-taught jeweller who began with fold-forming. David works in fine metals & other materials, taking inspiration from architecture and ancient forms.
This ring is a piece of the Darricarrere collection which was inspired by the Dalle de Verre stained glass designed by Roger Darricarrere.
Born & raised in France, Roger became a renowned exponent of Dalle de Verre stained glass. After a while Roger moved to the USA and there became a leading light in Dalle de Verre’s design, with installations from his base in California.
When David knew he wanted to make a collection to honour Roger, he felt he should make it in a way that was as like making Dalle de Verre windows as he possibly could. So, where the facetted glass is cast in concrete or resin in a Dalle de Verre window, David’s creations are carved from wax and then cast in silver to emulate the amazing textured, colourful windows that Roger created.
