“Lincoln Lincoln Log” is a brooch in a series of work that references Lincoln. Given my passion for exploring historical matter to provide commentary, I participated in a year long residency at the University of Illinois Springfield where I researched Lincoln’s legacy and created original artworks. The brooch presents a Lincoln Log child’s toy covered in a collage of vintage 4 cent commemorative postage stamps; the work prods you to contemplate Lincoln in the marketplace. I see beauty in the mundane. I am preoccupied with displacing images to influence perceptions, trigger memories, and alter realities. My creative practice is driven by a passion for history and collecting, an interest in hybridization, the absurd, and the human propensity for excess and ornamentation.
