Metalsmith Becky McDonah focuses on the format of the reliquary for its ability to elaborately protect and display venerated objects. She explores issues dealing with importance of position, presentation, and access or limited access to the contents. By using extensive ornamentation and precious materials, McDonah initiates contemplation that elevates the ordinary thus glorifying symbolic contents. This consideration of the supposedly “little things” can open one’s mind to the larger picture of cultural practices and ideals.

Bio
Becky McDonah teaches Fine Art Metals at Millersville University in PA, and is a former member of SNAG’s Board of Directors. Becky received her MFA from Arizona State University and BA from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. She has also been active exhibiting, lecturing, and presenting workshops.
