The potato root is evidence of neglect. My potatoes grow roots because I have left them on my counter for far too long.

In-part a reaction to the isolation caused by the current pandemic this most recent series includes objects, in this case jewelry, that have grown their own roots from to lack of attention. Some in such a way that they can no longer be worn.

Lucy Louise Derickson is an educator and artist residing in Washington, DC. Currently, Lucy is the Coordinator of the Jewelry & Metalsmithing/Crafts Area at Montgomery College in Rockville MD. Additionally, Lucy is a board member of the non-profit organization Ethical Metalsmiths (EM), and works as Chair of the EM Education Committee.
