My jewelry designs distill the abstract essence of natural landscapes and physical and scientific phenomena. I love forming and texturing metal. The ability of metal to seemingly “freeze” motion, such as the flutter of a scarf’s fringe, fascinates me. This Triptych necklace highlights the ability of metal corrugation to mimic waveforms and enhance the reflectivity of metal components.

Jean Shaffer is a Seattle jewelry artist, metalsmith and enamelist. She took her first metal fabrication class in 2002 and was hooked. In 2014, Jean earned a Certificate in Jewelry Design from North Seattle College and founded her business, Jean Shaffer Art. Jean’s work has been published and shown in juried exhibitions across the country.
