My recent work explores human relations and their inherent complexities. I believe that absurd extremes can make us see complex issues in a different context and, on occasion, be amusing. I frequently use humor to address issues that I see as odd or extreme. The symbolic nature of an object is important to me- what we hold as precious and why. It is important to me that the work challenges our conventional perspectives about the assumptions that we typically have.

Kenneth MacBain is a contemporary studio jeweler whose work uses humor to address issues of social status, preciousness, and intimacy. He is the recipient of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts Fellowship in 2021 and 2003. His metalwork has been shown in more than 30 books and in more than 100 exhibitions.
